Walking tips to avoid sciatica pain

Sciatique is a pain in the lower back that is caused by the pressure on your sciatic nerve. If you have sciatica, you may want to know some walking tips to at least lessen the sciatica pain every time it attacks. And it is also proven that poor walking could also worsen your condition so here are some tips that you should always keep in mind:

Always shorten your strides

As much as possible, always shorten your strides because the longer the stride is, the more that it can irritate the sciatic never because you are compressing your lumbar discs. While walking, do not attempt to reach your toes. You can either land on the space on your heel and midfoot. Also, always slow down while you are walking because the more you slow down, the shorter the strides that you make. You can even strike a conversation with someone while walking slowly.

Always keep on engaging core muscles

Engaging your core muscles means supporting your spinal cord. Make sure that you involve yourself in different activities that will actively engage all your abdominal muscles to serve as a protection to your sciatic nerve roots because it will help minimize the pressure put into your spine.

By standing upright and keeping both your head and shoulders always tall, sucking into your stomach and walking in a place where you are comfortable, you can ensure that you do not put too much pressure on your spinal cord.

Sciatique is something that you seriously need to take into consideration to make sure that you can maintain good health and the sciatic pain will not be that worse to the point that it interferes with your daily life anymore.
